Igshaan Amlay is a former political prisoner, entrepreneur and social activist. He was born in Grassy Park and grew up in Wynberg on the Cape Flats. He was actively involved in the struggle against apartheid at a very young age. He got arrested in 1985 at the age of 16 as a student activist with a group of students who went on trial which became known as the Wynberg 7 and was sentenced to serve imprisonment in 1987 at Pollsmoor Maximum Security. 

He attended South Peninsula High School which is situated in the then so called white suburb of Diep River. 

He is a qualified Photo-Lithographer and has a diploma in Advertising. His experience/expertise includes Event Management; Brand / Marketing / Creative / Design & Tourism

He worked on Robben Island in 1999 when the Island was converted into a museum after being approached by Christo Brand. He does motivational talks as well as talks on his imprisonment and often gets invited to be part of a panel of discussion with EMBA students from Universities around the globe. He is currently working on bringing the Formula 1 Grand Prix to Cape Town and is still very much involved in trying to make a difference in the lives of the previously disadvantaged  communities.

He is single and has no children and currently resides in Simonstown and stays in the house where his father was forcibly removed in the early 1970’s. He is a trustee of the Amlay Land Claim and acts on behalf of his family.
